Overall Student Wellbeing

Ensuring the holistic well-being of every student is at the heart of my educational advocacy. As a candidate for the Gwinnett County Board of Education in District 5, I am committed to prioritizing the physical, mental, and emotional health of our students.

My commitment to the 3 R's of Education extends beyond rhetoric; I am dedicated to collaborating with educators, parents, and administrators to implement policies that prioritize these fundamental aspects of education. Together, we can cultivate an educational environment in Gwinnett County where every student is empowered with the knowledge and skills derived from a robust focus on Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.

  • Reading: A strong emphasis on literacy is critical for promoting intellectual growth and empowering students to comprehend, analyze, and articulate their thoughts. I advocate for comprehensive literacy programs that cater to diverse learning styles, ensuring that every student not only learns to read but also develops a lifelong love for literature.

  • Writing: Effective communication is indispensable in the modern world. By championing robust writing programs, I aim to equip students with the skills needed to express themselves clearly and persuasively. Emphasizing writing proficiency prepares students for academic success and future professional endeavors.

  • Arithmetic: A solid foundation in arithmetic is the bedrock for advanced mathematical understanding. I advocate for innovative and engaging approaches to teaching mathematics, ensuring that students not only grasp numerical concepts but also develop critical problem-solving skills that will serve them well in various aspects of life.

It is a pledge to prioritize the well-being of our students, teachers, and the entire school community. By taking a proactive and collaborative approach, we can create a safe and nurturing environment that allows our students and teachers to focus on teaching and learning.

  • Physical Security: Collaborating with local law enforcement and security experts, we can develop and implement effective strategies to fortify our schools against potential threats.

  • Mental Health Support: Recognizing the interconnectedness of mental health and overall well-being, I am dedicated to enhancing mental health resources within our schools. By cultivating a supportive environment and providing access to counseling services, we can address the emotional needs of students and identify potential issues before they escalate.

  • Collaboration with Community Stakeholders: School safety is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration among educators, parents, law enforcement, and community members. I am committed to facilitating open communication channels and partnerships to ensure that everyone plays a role in creating a safe and secure educational environment.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Proactive planning and regular drills are essential components of a comprehensive safety strategy. I will work to ensure that our schools are well-prepared to handle a range of situations, from natural disasters to unforeseen security challenges.

Access and opportunity is a driving force behind my advocacy for an education system that empowers every student to reach their full potential.

  • Multilingual Education: Recognizing the diverse cultural fabric of our community, I am committed to enhancing multilingual education resources. By supporting language programs and services, we can ensure that every student, regardless of their native language, has the opportunity to excel academically and engage fully in the learning process.

  • Community Partnerships: Collaboration with local businesses, community organizations, and higher education institutions is crucial in providing students with real-world experiences and mentorship opportunities. I will actively foster partnerships that create internships, apprenticeships, and other avenues for students to gain practical skills and insights.

  • College and Career Guidance: Access to information and guidance for post-secondary options is paramount. I will work to enhance college and career counseling services, providing students with the information and support they need to make informed decisions about their future paths.

Drawing from my diverse background as a former PTA President, past Fast-Pitch Softball Coach, classroom volunteer and current Curator of an Annual Teen Summit, I have gathered valuable insights. One crucial lesson is student, family, and community engagement is a collective effort.

By developing strong connections and partnerships, we can create an educational ecosystem in Gwinnett County’s District 5 where every stakeholder is invested in the success and well-being of our students.

  • Family Involvement in Education: Recognizing the pivotal role families play in a student's academic journey, I am committed to encouraging and facilitating increased family involvement. This includes providing resources and opportunities for parents to actively participate in their child's education, from attending school events to collaborating with educators.

  • Cultural Competence and Inclusivity: I am dedicated to promoting cultural competence within our educational institutions. Embracing diversity and promoting an inclusive environment ensures that all students feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Cultural competence extends beyond the classroom, influencing how our schools engage with families and the community.

  • Student-Led Initiatives: Acknowledging the importance of student voices, I will champion initiatives that empower students to actively contribute to decision-making processes within their schools. This can include student councils, forums, and other platforms that amplify the perspectives and ideas of our young community members.

Building strong partnerships between schools and the community is a key pillar of my educational vision for Gwinnett County District 5. As a candidate for the Gwinnett County Board of Education, I am deeply committed to collaborative relationships that enhance the overall educational experience for our students and contribute to the well-being of our community.

  • Business and Industry Collaboration: Establishing partnerships with local businesses and industries is vital to preparing students for the demands of the workforce. I am dedicated to forging alliances that provide students with real-world experiences, mentorship opportunities, and insights into various career paths.

  • Community Resources for Education: Collaboration with community organizations and resources can greatly enrich the educational experience. I will work to identify and leverage local resources, such as libraries, museums, and cultural institutions, to supplement classroom learning and provide students with diverse educational opportunities.

  • Parental Involvement Programs: Recognizing the crucial role parents play in a child's education, I will champion opportunities that encourage and facilitate increased parental involvement. This includes initiatives that make it easier for parents to participate in school activities, stay informed about their child's progress, and actively contribute to the educational community.
